Rambis verður nýr þjálfari Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves and Kurt Rambis have reached terms on a deal that will install Rambis as the Wolves' new head coach, according to NBA coaching sources.

Long considered a potential heir apparent to Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson, Rambis was lured away from Jackson's staff by a four-year deal believed to be worth in excess of $8 million.

Wolves owner Glen Taylor confirmed ESPN.com's report in an interview with the St. Paul Pioneer Press late Saturday, telling the newspaper that he expects Rambis to formally sign the contract Monday.

The contract is for one year at the veteran's minimum of $1.3 million, according to sources.

King James er greinilega ekki búinn að loka á möguleikann að láta reyna á free-agency næsta sumar. 

LeBron James is unlikely to accept a contract extension from the Cleveland Cavaliers until after the 2009-10 season, when he can become a free agent.

At an event to unveil his latest signature sneaker for Nike, James, who has given no indication he plans to leave the Cavs, made his strongest comments yet about his future. The NBA's reigning MVP said he signed a three-year contract in 2006 with an option so he would have more flexibility once it expires.

"I signed a contract in 2006 with an option," he said. "It would make no sense for me to sign that contract if I didn't keep my options open. I'll let you fill in the blanks."

The Cavaliers offered James a contract extension last month. The 24-year-old said his agent, Leon Rose, and Cavs general manager Danny Ferry have had "a great conversation."

James doesn't expect his future to be a distraction for the Cavs, who acquired All-Star center Shaquille O'Neal this offseason.

The Los Angeles Clippers have intensified their interest in Sessions and appear on the brink of making a strong pitch for him. The scuttlebutt around the NBA is the clippers and Bucks are discussing a sign-and-trade scenario with Sessions, a restricted free agent, being the central figure. The Clippers would ideally like to include point guard Sebastian Telfair in the deal, and have also tossed out some other possibilities, including a draft pick. If the Clippers can’t come to an agreement with the Bucks on a sign-and-trade arrangement, there are growing indications they’ll extend an offer sheet to Sessions

The New Orleans Hornets announced today that New Orleans native Robert Pack has been named an assistant coach for the 2009-10 season. Pack, 40, joins Byron Scott's staff after a one-year assistant coach stint with the NBA Developmental League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The Vipers finished 21-29 last season. 'I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to coach in the NBA,' Pack said. 'It's always been my dream and to have the chance to do so in my hometown is something I'm really grateful for. I'm really excited for the season to start, and I just have to thank Coach Scott for such a great opportunity.
